Forest Clearance is mandatory for any non-forest activity taking place on forest land.

It is required under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.

• Form-A is used for proposals involving diversion of forest land for non-forest use.

• Form-B is used for proposals related to mining renewal and lease extensions.

Forest Clearances are granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.

• Stage-I is the In-Principle Approval that outlines conditions for diversion.

• Stage-II is the Final Approval after compliance with Stage-I conditions.

• CA is afforestation done to compensate for the diverted forest land.

• NPV (Net Present Value) is a fee paid to the Forest Department to compensate for ecosystem loss.
